Gortemaker Algra Feenstra
Elisabeth-TweeSteden Ziekenhuis (ETZ), one of the Netherlands’ largest hospitals, will undergo a complete renovation over the next decade. We are working with Gortemaker Algra Feenstra architects to reimagine this healthcare icon.
Healthcare design is evolving, and ETZ reflects this transformation in three ways. First, patient and staff well-being is prioritised, replacing sterile environments with calming, welcoming spaces. Second, the hospital is built in phases with flexible pavilions, allowing adaptation to technological and societal changes. Lastly, design fosters collaboration, integrating specialists and care partners, as seen in the new entrance area where acute care from multiple partners comes together.
