The world’s most exclusive collection of handbags can be found along Amsterdam’s prestigious canals. What began as a private hobby grew into a museum attracting 70,000 visitors annually. The building is rich with original architectural and decorative details, including hand-painted murals and authentic textile wallpaper. When we were asked to update the bar in the museum restaurant, preserving all of these original features was a key requirement.
By incorporating ceiling-high mirrors and ornate paintings, we created a space that feels both modern and traditional. In the bar and the two majestic event rooms, each piece of furniture bridges the gap between old and new. Prioritising comfort for senior visitors, all seating features high backs and armrests. The showpiece behind the bar serves as a display for products and glassware while also echoing the museum’s handbag exhibits presented in glass cabinets.
