Design Upgrade in Education

In 2011 D/DOCK won the competition for the expansion and internal re-design of an existing school in Zaandam.
The project objective was to combine two schools in the same building, for this reason an addition in usable space was needed, with the partial covering of the semi-patio at the entrance with a glass volume, and with the realization of a new entrance block in the right wing of the complex.
The clients ambition was also to rethink the interior design and distribution in order to give more flexibility and educational power to the school itself.
For this reason D/DOCK adopted its new Learning Communities– manual for the new design.
With the following financial crisis in the market, the project could not be realized.

The big central patio distributes the routing and provide an indoor additional space for events, cafe, and shared activities.
