Designing for transparency

For the new work environment of publisher NBD Biblion, we created a transparent design that stimulates communication and personal interaction. The information flows within the organization and the building itself were key in the design. The storage element, which resembles a big bookshelf, is visible throughout the entire building and embodies these information flows. It creates a natural separation between the personal workspaces and the public areas such as the meeting rooms and coffee corners and ensures the preservation of the human scale in the open building.

The striking colours of the exterior of the building are subtly integrated in the interior design of the public spaces that are in the centre of the building. These colours correspond to the furniture of the meeting rooms and waiting areas and communicate with the colour planes on the floor. However, the individual workplaces, which are adjacent to the window, are characterised by natural and muted colours to stimulate concentration.
